How to play Solitaire
Classic Klondike solitaire.
Goal
Move all 52 cards to the 4 foundations in the top-right corner. Each foundation holds one suit (♠ ♥ ♦ ♣) and must be built up from Ace to King: A, 2, 3… then J, Q, K.
The table has 7 columns. In the columns, cards are built down in alternating colours — for example 8♥ on 9♠, then 7♣ on 8♥. You can move a whole face-up stack to another column. A face-down card turns over by itself once it is uncovered. Only a King (or a stack starting with a King) may go into an empty column.
The stock is in the top-left corner. Tap it to turn over 1 card (Draw 1) or 3 cards (Draw 3, harder) onto the waste pile; only the top card can be played. When the stock is empty, tap the ↻ spot to recycle the waste.
Controls
- Computer: drag and drop a card (or a whole stack) with the mouse. Double-click a card to send it to the best legal place, foundations first. You can also click a card to select it (yellow outline) and then click the column you want. Shortcuts: Ctrl+Z or U undo, H hint, Space or D draw, A auto-finish, Esc clear selection.
- Phone: drag cards or stacks with your finger. Double-tap a card to send it away automatically. If dragging is awkward, tap once to select a card and then tap the column where it should go.
- Undo works for as many steps as you like. Hint flashes a good move. When every card is face up, the game finishes by itself.
Options and records
- Solvable deals only: the computer solves each deal before giving it to you, so every game can be won (it may take a few seconds).
- Classic scoring: +10 for a card to a foundation, +5 from the waste to a column, +5 for turning over a card, −15 for taking a card back from a foundation, −100 (Draw 1) or −20 (Draw 3) for recycling the stock, plus a bonus for a fast win.
- Your record is the fastest winning time, kept separately for Draw 1 and Draw 3. An unfinished game is saved so you can continue later.
Tips
- Turn over face-down cards in the longest columns first.
- Don’t empty a column unless you have a King ready to put there.
- Send Aces and Twos up right away; with higher cards, think about keeping them in the columns as landing spots.
