How to play Sokoban
Push all crates onto storage targets without getting stuck.
Goal
Sokoban is the legendary Japanese transport puzzle created in 1981. You control a warehouse keeper whose job is to push all crates onto designated storage targets 🎯. Once every single crate rests on a target spot, the stage is cleared and you advance to the next challenge!
Movement Rules
- Push only, never pull: The keeper can only push crates forward; you can never pull a crate backwards.
- One crate at a time: You cannot push two crates in a line or push a crate through a solid wall.
- Beware of deadlocks: Pushing a crate into a corner formed by two walls leaves it permanently stuck with no way out, unless you undo!
Controls
- Keyboard: Use Arrow keys or W, A, S, D to navigate. Press Z or U to Undo; press R to Restart.
- Mouse / Smart Touch: Simply click or tap on any reachable floor tile and the keeper will automatically find the shortest path to walk there! Tap a crate to automatically maneuver behind it and push it forward.
- Virtual D-Pad: On touchscreen mobile devices, intuitive on-screen direction arrows and quick-undo buttons allow effortless one-hand play.
Pro Tips
- Plan ahead before making your first move. Mentally trace the route for each crate to avoid blocking critical hallways.
- Fill the furthest targets first so that settled crates do not block the pathway for remaining ones.
- Make generous use of unlimited Undo whenever a move leads to a dead end.
