How to play FreeCell Solitaire
Use 4 free cells to sort cards from Ace to King by suit.
Goal
FreeCell is the legendary open-card solitaire made famous on Windows. Unlike other solitaires, all 52 cards are dealt face-up from the start. Over 99.99% of all deals are solvable — your outcome is determined purely by foresight and strategy!
Your objective is to transfer all 52 cards onto the 4 Foundations at the top right, sorted by suit from Ace up to King.
Board Layout
- 4 Free Cells (top-left): Temporary holding slots. Each cell can hold at most one card of any rank.
- 4 Foundations (top-right): Build each suit up from Ace to King (♠, ♥, ♦, ♣).
- 8 Tableau Columns: The 52 cards are dealt across 8 columns (the first four have 7 cards, the last four have 6 cards).
Building Rules
- Tableau cascades are built down in descending sequence with alternating colours (Red on Black, Black on Red). For example, a red 7 can be placed on a black 8.
- Any empty tableau column can be filled with any card or valid sequence.
- Supermove formula: The maximum number of cards you can move simultaneously depends on your open free cells and open columns:
Max cards = (1 + open freecells) × 2^(empty columns).
Controls
- Smart Tap: Click or tap a card to automatically send it to its best destination (Foundation first, then Tableau cascade, then Freecell).
- Drag & Drop: Smoothly grab cards or valid stacks and drop them onto target piles.
- Auto button: Instantly collects safe cards up to foundations.
