How to play Checkers
Jump diagonal to capture rival pieces and crown your kings.
Game Objective
Checkers (English Draughts) is the premier 8×8 diagonal board game enjoyed worldwide. The contest takes place exclusively on the 32 dark squares of the board. Each player commands 12 pieces across their first three rows. Your goal is to capture all 12 opposing checkers or trap your opponent so no legal moves remain!
The human player commands the Red army and moves first; the AI controls the Black army.
Movement & Capture Jumps
- Regular Move: Standard men move diagonally forward one square into an adjacent unoccupied dark tile.
- Capturing Jump: If an opposing piece occupies an adjacent diagonal square and the landing square immediately beyond is vacant, your piece must jump over and capture it, banishing it from the board!
- Multi-Jump Chains: If landing from a capture yields another immediate jumping opportunity, your piece continues bounding in a dynamic multi-jump streak!
Crowning Kings 👑
When a piece reaches the furthest row on the opponent's side of the board, it is instantly crowned a King. Kings gain immense tactical flexibility: they can move and jump both forwards and backwards along diagonals!
